WINTHROP — In observance of March as Women’s History Month, local author Karen Richards Toothaker plans to offer an interactive, make-and-take doll party from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 26, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center, 107 Main St.

Rag dolls have comforted children and taught them how to care for others throughout the history of Winthrop, according to a news release from the society. People can celebrate dolls and the women who brought them to life, and take home their own rag doll.

Toothaker’s book “The Rag Doll Gift” is available at the gift shop at the center. Invitations with a small doll attached are available at the center. The center is open 1-5 p.m. Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The next business meeting of the Winthrop Maine Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, via Zoom. The society plans to resume monthly presentations in April in person at the center and via Zoom.

The society is meanwhile searching for the oldest house in Winthrop. Nominations can be mailed along with name and contact information to WMHS at P.O. Box 33, Winthrop, ME 04364. They also can be brought to the center during open hours. Nominations are due by April 1. The oldest house nominated will be crowned at the society’s April 14 meeting.

The society’s next planned big project for 2022 will be painting the whole exterior of the center using money from a grant that WMHS received. The society seeks painters for this project; call 508-320-1514 for more information.

The society’s Speaker Series starts in April and will continue through November.
