Ann D. Dewitt

TOPSHAM – Ann D. Dewitt, 84, died Wednesday March 9, 2022. Ann was born in Hanover, N.H. on August 2, 1937, the daughter of Robert Mills Dudley and Helen (Johnson) Dudley.

She graduated as salutatorian from Brunswick high school in 1956. While in high school she served as president of the student council. She attended Colby college and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in physics in 1960. She received a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Maine in 1977.

Ann was married to the love of her life Charles DeWitt on June 17, 1961 and together they enjoyed 60 years of enduring love. She worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories and at RCA in New Jersey in the early 1960s doing laboratory work in micro circuitry. She taught high school physics in Waterville in the late 1960s. Her 32 year career in state service was with Disability Determination Services of the Department of Human Services where she served as director for 26 years.

She was a member of an Episcopal church wherever she lived. The American Association of University Women was of great interest to Ann. She belonged to branches and served in leadership positions in Waterville and in the mid coast area at different times.

Her children and grandchildrens activities, hosting family gatherings, reading, gardening, music and art were Ann’s life long interests.

Ann is survived by her husband Charles DeWitt of Topsham; two sons, John and wife Sarah of Sidney, Charles of Sydney Australia, and Laura (DeWitt) Begley and husband Mark of Windham. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexander and wife Sarah, Spencer and fiance Ceilya, Adam, Megan, Andrea, Abigail and husband Alex, Charles, Nicole and husband Zac, and Michele; beloved sister-in-law Carol; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Jane, John, and William.
