OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School plans to hold its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 25, in the high school cafeteria at 131 Messalonskee High Drive.

This year’s fundraiser will be a Soup to Go event. The menu will include homemade soups, rolls, water and desserts. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.

The school has been holding this event for over a decade. The purpose of this project is to raise money for food pantries throughout Regional School Unit 18. It’s also about raising awareness about community members who face food insecurity, according to a news release from the school.

Students and faculty members of school, under the direction of ceramics teacher Sherrie Damon, have been crafting ceramic bowls to be sold as part of the dinner. The pottery bowls will be on display for diners to choose and take home with them as a reminder of the event and what it represents.

Diners can complete the evening by attending “Puffs,” performed by the Messalonskee High School Players. Tickets for the play cost $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the door.

For those who cannot attend but would like to make a donation, mail donations to Messalonskee High School, 131 Messalonskee High Drive, Oakland, ME 04963. Checks should be made out to Messalonskee High School, with Empty Bowls on the memo line.
