RANDOLPH – Leonard John “Link” Thibeau, 89, of Randolph, Maine, died Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Togus VA Medical Center. He was born in Calais, Maine, on June 16, 1932, the son of William and Mary (Boudreau) Thibeau.Leonard was a 1951 graduate of Gardiner High School, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. He remained a loyal Tigers fan throughout his life. Leonard served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War period, aboard the USS Kula Gulf. He was proud to serve his country, and was later an active member and commander of his local American Legion. In 1956, he began his 41-year career as a lineman for the phone company, at that time called “Ma Bell.” He earned the nickname “Mr. Overtime” for his dedicated service and had a funny tale about almost every pole or job site he encountered. Leonard’s pastimes included playing cards and beano, doing crossword puzzles, rooting for the Red Sox and the Patriots, watching cowboy movies, game shows, and the Three Stooges, and daily phone calls with his brother Philip. He loved spending time outside in all seasons. He will be fondly remembered sitting in his preferred sunny spot on his deck with a cup of coffee, a smile, and a good story for all who stopped by for a visit. His favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was never too busy to read a book, take a walk, or play a game with them. “Bump” enriched their lives with his storytelling, his sense of humor, and his love for a little bit of mischief. Leonard described himself as a rich man. He considered the love of his family his greatest treasure, and he believed that one could find a reason to be grateful and to laugh every day. Leonard was predeceased by his parents; brother Donald Thibeau; sister Geraldine Moody; grandsons Christopher Thibeau and Matthew Thibeau; and special nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He is lovingly missed by his wife of 52 years, Lavenia (Brooks) Thibeau, of Randolph; daughter Sherri Dunton and partner Ed Carter; son Leonard “John” Thibeau Jr.; son Rick Leighton and wife Sara; daughter Debbie Marcellino and husband Scott; daughter Jackie Toman and husband Jim. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren Jennifer Pegram; Tricia Alexander and husband Jeff; Ricky Leighton and wife Sarah; Cole Leighton; Kate Marcellino and partner Gabe; Ally Marcellino and partner Nat; Nicole Marcellino; Aaron Toman and fiancee Michaela; Mary Toman; Anna Toman; and great- grandchildren Logan Alexander; Brooklyn Alexander; Grayson Pegram; and Hazel Leighton. Leonard is also survived by his brother Fred Thibeau; brother Philip Thibeau and wife Judy; sister-in-law Helen Thibeau; brother-in-law Tom Brooks; sister-in-law Wilma Dobbins and husband Bill; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 26, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner. Burial service will be held on Thursday, June 23rd, at 10 am, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
