I read recently that Waterville’s Main Street may be too narrow to accommodate two-way traffic. The people who came up with this idea couldn’t have done their homework. If they had gone into the archives, they would have seen that one of the reasons for making it one-way long ago was because the street was too narrow for traffic, parking and pedestrian safety. They spent millions on a year-long project to re-do Main Street and widen the sidewalks. Didn’t anyone realize that it was going to make the street narrower?
In my opinion the two-way idea should be scrapped and the city should leave what has worked for 50 years or so as is. Cost? Nothing. If anyone thinks two-way traffic and limited parking is going to bring in more shoppers they are dreaming.
