Ronald W. Cormier

SOUTH PARIS – Ronald W. Cormier, 88, passed away on Thursday March 17, 2022, at the Southern Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Augusta, a son of the late Romeo and Leona (Paradis) Cormier.

As a young man, Ron left Maine and entered into the Marine Corps and was deployed to Korea. After the war, he was returned to Camp Pendleton in California. There he met his wife of 65 years Joanne, they soon started a family of three children Ronald Jr., Robbin and Randi. He built a beautiful home for his family. He worked for LA County, as an elevator mechanic. Ron always wanted to return to Maine and after approximately 25 years he moved his family back to Maine in 1976. He then purchased a country store in North Augusta and named it Cormier‘s Market. After a few years he expanded and opened a sandwich and pizza shop which he named, Jonathan‘s after his first grandson. The family worked both businesses, due to the success of Jonathan‘s Ron sold his store. In 1988 Ron suffered a severe stroke which left him a paraplegic of the left side. Not able to work the business Ron sold it and retired.

He enjoyed boating, camping and snowmobiling, with his wife and friends. In 1996 there was one more move, to Poland, Maine to be closer to family. He liked seeing his grandchildren and friends who came to see him. Ron was a happy person always having a quick amusing phrase like, “If it gets any better than this, I’ll live forever!”

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
