AUGUSTA – Joan M. (Quirion) Gaulin, 86, passed away March 26, 2022. Our wonderful Mom/Nana is no longer in pain. Joan was born Aug. 6, 1935, to Henry and Eda (Landry) Quirion. She was the youngest of eight children.She married Ronald C. Gaulin on Aug. 25, 1951. Together they had five children; Felecia, Rhonda, Brian, Gail, and Wendy. They owned and operated Gaulin’s Market in Waterville from 1960 to 1972. She also worked at Olive’s Chuck Wagon Restaurant, Zayre, and Howard Johnson’s before retiring in 1997 from MaineGeneral Medical Center at 62. Joan was the matriarch of our family. She was an extraordinary mother and Nana. We have many wonderful memories of Sunday lunches, Christmas Eve get-togethers, raking the leaves and jumping into the piles in the fall, sliding down the big hill out back in the winter, apple picking and strawberry picking, her making tourtiere pie every year. Family was everything to her.She loved listening to music and dancing around the house to it, although it was a good thing she didn’t always listen to the words. She loved to play Skip Bo and watch the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She loved staying up on New Year’s Eve to watch the ball drop while drinking her Asti Spumante champagne. You could catch her in the front row at Black Raider football and basketball games, pom poms in hand tapping along to the cheers and band.Joan was an animal lover, especially her many cats she has loved over the years. She also loved watching birds, always having multiple feeders full and throwing peanuts to them so she could enjoy them.She is survived by her daughter Felecia Gaulin and husband David Hammond, daughter Rhonda Landry and husband John, daughter Gail Poulin and husband Louis, daughter Wendy Huff and husband Joel, and daughter in law Sheila Gaulin.She is also survived her grandchildren; granddaughter Shannon Gogan and her daughters Abigail and Bayleigh Thibodeau, granddaughter Heather Fermo and her children Gage Vaughan and Haidyn Parlin, grandson Nicholas Landry and his partner Elizabeth Couturier, grandson Ronald Gaulin II and wife Tori and their son Preston, grandson Nathan Landry and wife Jamie and their sons Levi and Ethan, grandson Aaron Landry and husband Brian Lane, granddaughter Ashley Whitman and fiance Walter Powell and their children Bryce, Ben, Aiden, Jackson, Blake and Bella, grandson Kevin Gaulin and wife Jennifer and their children Jeff, Johnny, Emily, Kaylee and Alex and granddaughter Alexandra Huff.She is also survived by her brother Leo Quirion and wife Lorraine; her sister-in-law Beverly Quirion as well many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Eda Quirion; husband Ronald C Gaulin; son Brian C Gaulin; grandson Keith R Gogan; and siblings: Henry, Donald, Edward, James, Geraldine Michaud, and Dora Mae Blair.The family would like to thank the staff of Glenridge Nursing Care Center and MaineGeneral Hospice for the care they gave our Mom/Nana.Private celebration of life to be held at a later date.Arrangements under the direction and care of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan ME 04976. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to your local humane society as she loved animals.
