Ernest F. Jost Sr.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Ernest F. Jost Sr. of Worcester, Mass. and Augusta, died on April 5, 2022, of cardiac disease.
Born on Jan. 18, 1937, he was the son of Ernest and Catherine (Wing) Jost. He graduated from Attleboro High School and Northeastern University with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering.
Ernie worked for the City of Attleboro, Mass. before moving to Chicago to work as Chief Real Estate Engineer for McDonald’s. His next position took him to Albany, N.Y. to work for NEBA Roast Beef. In 1968, Ernie was recruited by the EJ Cross Company in Worcester, Mass., where he worked for 30 years until the company closed its doors after 100 years of business. He joined Cutler Associates Inc. in 1995 and worked until his retirement in 2007. Retirement didn’t stop him from working and he did consulting work for Independent Claims Services, Inc. in Westborough, Mass. for several years.
Ernie was an enthusiastic skier, skiing throughout the U.S. and Europe, as well as teaching others to ski for many years at Wachusett Mountain. Sailing was another passion of his, including teaching sailing at Regatta Point on Lake Quinsigamond. He played tennis for many years until his knees protested. In retirement, he traded his sailboat for a pontoon (party) boat on Togus Pond in Augusta where he summered.
Ernie leaves his loving wife of 25 years, Carla (Nettelbladt) Jost; his seven children, Lynette F. McDonagh, (Larry Cambra) of Southbridge, Mass., Donna-Rae Stedman, of Hubbardston, Mass., Lori-Ann Cutler, (Mark Connor) of Spencer, Mass., Ernest F. Jost Jr. (Renee) of Worcester, Mass., Erin-Lee Salloway, (Steven) of Worcester, Mass., Martha-Ellen Jost, of Baldwinville, Mass., and Henry D. Jost, (Kathleen) of Leicester, Mass. He had 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul, his sisters Cathleen Francisco and Elaine Call; and his former wife, Paula Jost Strickland.
Ernie was an adoring husband, a great father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal friend. He always picked out the best greeting card, as if it had been written by him personally. He will be greatly missed by all.
Per his request there are no services. Of Ernie, it can always be said, “he did it his way.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Sheila Trugman, Rabbi Richard Rudnick and all the caregivers from the Jewish Healthcare Hospice for their kind help during Ernie’s final days.
