“Beautiful Boho,” Joy Roberts Submitted photo

Acrylic pour artist Joy Bennett Roberts and work from Wicked Illustrations student artists are featured in a dual show on display this month in the Gritty’s Art and Ale Window in Auburn.

Roberts is primarily a self-taught artist. She gained some early art experience through the public education system as a teenager and took a couple art courses in college but didn’t not pursue a career in the field of art until age 38. It was a chance encounter with her Aunt Kathy at Christmas 2018 that turned her onto the world of acrylic pouring. She learned from her very talented aunt during a couple private lessons how to tackle the unpredictable artform of acrylic pouring and epoxy art. She has been hooked ever since. Her artwork has been on display at craft fairs around southern Maine, including Kennebunk’s Waterhouse Artisan’s Market. This June, her art has been chosen by the Kennebunk Free Library to be displayed in their Speer’s Gallery. She also has pieces of art for sale at Cole’s Corner Gift Shop on route one in Wells. Town and Tourist Newspaper ran an article in June 2019 featuring her artwork as well.

Wicked Illustrations student artists from the Thursday evening adult class are also showcasing paintings in support of Ukraine. Artists include Lisa Flynn, Amanda Retus, Kimberly Valladares, Jessica Young, Stephanie Therrien, Cory Tancrede and Xenia Ferraro Prue.

Work will be on display through April. To purchase work or inquire about displaying your own, contact wickedillustrations@gmail.com.
