Vondell Marie Rose (Poulin) Mairs

FARMINGDALE – Vondell Marie Rose (Poulin) Mairs, 92, of Farmingdale, passed away at Mount Joseph of Waterville on April 13, 2022. She was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of Bernard Alfred Poulin and Yvonne (Boivin) Poulin. A North Vassalboro girl, she attended Vassalboro Public Schools and Winslow High School. She was a communicant of the former St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in North Vassalboro, having received all her sacraments there as a child. She later married Harley P. Mairs Jr. in that same church. Vondell was fiercely independent. She was an accomplished quilt maker, seamstress, gardener, and birdwatcher. One of her many gifts to her children was to ensure that every child was baptized at St. Bridget’s Church shortly after each one came into the world.She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Yvonne Poulin, sisters Rosalie Palow and Bernadine Dutil, brother Bernard Poulin, son SSG Michael J. Mairs in 2001, her husband Harley in 2006 and grandchild Suzanne Mairs. Vondell is survived by sons Steven Mairs and wife Sharon of Florida, and Peter Mairs Sr. and wife Charil of Pittston; daughters Crystal Peterson and husband Gilbert of Readfield and Regina Amadei and husband Robert of Sidney; brother-in-law Donald Mairs and wife Nancy of Belgrade; grandchildren Peter Mairs Jr., Scott Mairs, Stacy Mairs, Mikael Green; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Honoring her request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held. Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
