PITTSFIELD — Leah Dechaine of Pittsfield, a senior at Maine Central Institute, has received the 2022 Principal’s Award, according to a news release from Head of School Winn Price.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Price said, “Leah is a persuasive advocate for her constituents with staff and faculty.”

Dechaine is the daughter of Ken and Nanhee Dechaine of Pittsfield. In addition to being a member of the golf and tennis teams, she is the Student Council president, a two-year member of the National Honor Society, and a participant in the Model United Nations conference.

She is finishing her high school career with a top 10 grade point average in the class of 2022. She earned highest honors in each quarter she has attended MCI, won geometry and science awards, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Dechaine, Price and other award winners and their principals participated in a live virtual scholarship drawing April 1. Ten $1,000 scholarships were drawn in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
