Kerry Patrick Leighton

FARMINGDALE – Kerry Patrick Leighton was born Sept. 1, 1958, in Pittsburg, Pa., to the late Philip and Patricia Leighton. He was the third of three rambunctious boys all born 20 months apart. Peter, Timmy and Kerry growing up were often referred to as “the three steps”. Five years later he became a big brother to little sister Polly. As a teenager Kerry excelled at athletics. He loved football, and was the quarter back for Cony Highschool. He enjoyed basketball, and loved playing golf with his father and brothers. Kerry was handsome, he was a good friend, and he was well liked among his classmates.Shortly after graduation Kerry was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He lived happily in Augusta for many years independently – where he looked forward to family get togethers and holidays. He taught his family about finding the joy in little things, like a hot cup of coffee, or a birthday dinner. His contentment with life is something his family has always admired. He brought everyone closer together. He was kind, gentle, witty, and will be missed incredibly by those who loved him. He is survived by his three siblings, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He will be laid to rest near his loving and steadfast parents in Cape Elizabeth. A small private ceremony will take place this spring.
