GARDINER – After spending the day surrounded by the love of her family, our mom, Priscilla Dana (Hubbard) Buckle, 87, passed away at MaineGeneral Augusta in the quiet of the evening on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, after years of declining health. Her story began on Feb. 23, 1936, at Gardiner Hospital becoming the second child and first daughter of Lloyd and Phyllis Hubbard. She grew up on Winter Hill and attended Gardiner schools graduating from Gardiner High in 1954. It was there that she met the love of her life and our dad, Bill Buckle. Shortly after Mom graduated high school she and dad married on Dec. 26, 1954, while he was home on leave. After a short stay in Illinois while Dad served in the Air Force, they returned to Maine to make their home. That home was made on Northern Avenue in Farmingdale where Mom was mainly a stay-at-home mom and raised us four kids. She did work briefly outside the home at Grants, Health-Tex and the local shoe factories with a very brief time at McDonalds, however her most rewarding job was being a mom, grandmother and great grandmother. When their working days were over, Mom and Dad spent winters in New Port Richey Florida hanging out with the gang from Gardiner. Mom’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. First her kids were her world and then came the grandkids who were her pride and joy. Of course, like everyone else, she loved spending time with family and friends doing fun stuff like camping, family picnics, day trips and oh what she wouldn’t do for a lobster. When us kids were grown with families of our own, quilting became one of her most pleasurable pastimes. She collected a mountain of fabric that was going to be used for something someday, not to mention every gadget you would need to complete a project. However, Mom was known to start a project but never seemed to be able to finish one. If you were one to get a finished project, you were indeed the lucky one. Treasure it. She gained a love for hockey while watching her grandson Michael play in high school. After that she enjoyed watching the Bruins on TV and would watch a game no matter the time. If you drove by at 3:00am and the lights were on, it was a sure bet she was watching a game. When hockey was over, she would say, “now what am I going to watch?” When there was no hockey, she enjoyed watching the Patriots and occasionally NASCAR. She is predeceased by our dad and the love of her life Bill in May of 2015. Her parents as well as her siblings, brothers Ernest and Fred and sister Florence Puckett. She will be greatly missed by those she left: sister Lorraine Ferguson of Augusta, her children: Bill Jr. of The Villages, Florida, Deb (Malcom) Pierce of West Gardiner, Annette (Mark) Morissette of Vassalboro, Fred (Julie) of the Buckle homestead in West Gardiner, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren with two additions coming in September, many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 9, at 11 a.m., at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
