Stanley C. Hallett

AUGUSTA – Stanley C. Hallett, 91, of Readfield peacefully passed away on Thursday April 21, 2022 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born on April 14, 1931 in Gardiner a son of the late Carlton and Enola (Cooper) Hallett. He was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1949.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years in 1951. He served in Virginia and England.

After the service he worked in the Ellis Dental Lab in Biddeford. Thereafter he was employed at the Veterans Administration at Togus for 20 years. He retired from Togus in 1992. He was then self employed and owner of the S.C. Hallett Dental Lab.

Stanley married Catherine “Norma” Ellis on Oct. 27, 1951 and had two daughters, Wanda and Wendy. They celebrated many wonderful years together living in Saco as well as Windsor. They recently moved to Readfield.

Stanley was a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association as well as a Patron Life Member of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. He will always be remembered for his love of being a private pilot and flying along with being an avid fisherman and hunter. He had enjoyed many trips to Canada, Alaska and spots in Maine doing both.

His other hobbies included playing his guitar, listening to Bluegrass music, stamp collecting and gardening. He and Norma had a camp that they enjoyed spending time together at on Seboomook Lake near Moosehead. They also found great pleasure in traveling to such destinations as Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Catherine “Norma” Hallett of Readfield, his daughter, Wendy Hallett and her significant other, David Hall of Augusta and his sister Gloria Coleman of Massachusetts.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Wanda Grasso; as well as his brother, Doran Hallett.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of both the Maine Veterans Home and Maine General Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Stanley during his time of care with them.

A graveside service with full military honors for Stanley will be held on Monday May 9 at 2 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Blue Star Memorial Highway in Augusta.

Arrangements are under the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1 Church St., Augusta, 623-8722.
