Arnold MacKenzie

AUGUSTA – Arnold MacKenzie, 84, also known as “Arnie”, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 2, 2022.

The son of Robert and Daisy MacKenzie, he attended Hallowell Elementary School. Following school, Arnie worked for a local farmer, Lipman’s Poultry in Augusta and other area department stores.

He was the baby of his immediate family and, as expected, was the last to pass. We are sure his parents and siblings were there to greet him when he passed.

He was a devoted and loving member of his family which included many cousins, nieces and nephews. He loved family and he loved children. Arnie was a man who loved his God and read the Bible daily. His church family meant a lot to him and he considered the staff and residents of Hall Dale Manor in Farmingdale, where he lived for the past 11 years, as family also. He was known to lead the daily prayer at the Manor. He loved spending time with his many friends and family sharing stories or just giving them a hug.

Ed Maddox Jr., Arnie’s nephew, otherwise known as “Junior”, became his caretaker when his sister, Tressie Maddox, passed away in 2005. Arnie looked forward to the visits from Junior who would take him on trips to the Dollar Store to purchase necessary essentials he needed such as paper towels, word search books and other things of interest to him. Arnie always knew that when he needed something, he could depend on Junior. His smile lit up any room he entered and he was free with his smile and his hugs.

Arnie was predeceased by his parents; and siblings Tressie Maddox, Robert MacKenzie, Herman MacKenzie Sr., Percy MacKenzie, Ray MacKenzie and Betty Holmes.

He is survived by Ed and Debrah Maddox of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews; as well as his many friends.

Arnie’s family would like to thank the nursing staff at Maine General Medical Center for their compassionate care of Arnie during the last few days of his life. We would also like to thank the Staff at Hall Dale Manor for their care, concern and love for Arnie over the last 11 years.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hallowell Cemetery, Water Street. A celebration of life will be held at the Manchester Lions Club on Saturday, May 28 at 4 p.m.

Arrangements are in the care of the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Memories, condolences, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
