Open auditions will be held for the upcoming summer production of “School of Rock – The Musical” at the L/A Community Little Theatre in Auburn from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, and Monday, May 16.

Based on the 2003 movie, “School of Rock – The Musical” tells the story of Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn extra money by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, Dewey turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can Dewey get them to the “Battle of the Bands” without their parents and the school’s leadership finding out? With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show features 14 new songs as well as songs from the movie.

Director Paul G. Caron is looking for young talent who can sing, act, dance, and play an instrument. For the student ensemble, he is looking for performers who are or look 11-14 years old and can play instruments very well (piano/keyboard, bass/cello, drums, rock, and acoustic guitar). These auditioners will be asked to play their instruments at the auditions. Instruments will be provided.

There are other roles for youth who are or look 10-13, and many of these do not have to play instruments. Principal and supporting cast roles for adults will also be part of auditions. All who audition are asked to prepare 16 bars of their best musical/standard music selection, and to bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist.

Rehearsals will be held May 22 through August 10, typically three weekday evenings and one weekend day per week. The musical will be performed August 11-14 and 18-21. All auditioners must bring proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
