Roger H. Tillson

AUGUSTA – Roger H. Tillson, born Augusta July 18, 1944, died May 7, 2022 .Only child of Malcom and Georgia (Hibbert) Tillson. Educated in Augusta. Graduated Cony H.S. class of ’63. Attended Gates Business College. Graduated UMA with B.A. Roger began working as a teen raking blueberries. As an adult he worked at Lipman Poultry. Moved to Springfield Mass in the late 60’s to work for Titeflex.Returned to Maine in the early ’70s to became co-owner of Bailey Brothers General Store in East Poland Maine. While owning the store he also traveled to Washington Maine daily to care for his ailing mother as well as manage her boarding home. After the sale of both businesses he began his 25-year career with the Veterans Administration, working in Washington, D.C., and Bedford, Mass., and (remotely) Augusta, Maine.He enjoyed RVing and once took a 20-casino excursion covering most of the East coast. Slots were his favorite game, any time, any place. He also enjoyed traveling by land, sea or air. Vacations in Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii were some of the most memorable. His love for animals was unsurpassed. He is survived by his husband of 54 years, Allen LaPan-Tillson, his best friend Carl Looby of Lawrence Mass., cousins across the U.S.A. many friends and co-workers at the V.A., and his four footed diva, Baby.At Roger’s request he will be cremated and no public service.Roger, you were my rock and my shelter. Allen.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to PALS No-Kill Cat Shelter in Winthrop or Colonial Theater Restoration Project in Augusta.
