We are lucky to have two good candidates to choose from in the Democratic primary for House District 55, but one candidate stands out. Dan Shagoury has recently retired from the staff of the Maine Legislature. His experience with the Legislature means he understands a complicated system of rules and procedures that take most freshmen legislators significant time to master. This will be a huge advantage to his constituents and will make him an effective advocate for us from day one.

The demands of the Legislature are unpredictable, especially late in the session when many important decisions are made. Since Dan is retired and his children are adults, he will be able to devote his full time to the job of representing us.

I think both Democratic candidates’ positions on important issues are reasonable. However, Dan’s experience with the Legislature makes him the stronger choice in next month’s primary election and he deserves our full support.
