Winthrop High School has announced its top 10 seniors for the class of 2022 in alphabetical order, according to a news release from Principal Mark Campbell.

Sarah Adam, the daughter of Ferdus Awali and Ahmed Adam, is salutatorian. She plans to attend Harvard to begin her studies in psychology with an ultimate goal of becoming a psychiatrist.

Her involvement in school activities include Civil Rights Team member, Drama Club, WBUS 75 Productions, Yearbook and National Honor Society. For her efforts, she was recently recognized with a Ron Brown Scholar Captain.

Patrick Bellemare, the son of Gerald and Alice, Bellemare, is planning to attend the University of Maine Orono where he will further his education as undeclared in liberal arts. While at Winthrop High School, he has been involved in cross country and track and field. In his spare time, Bellemare volunteers at the PALS Animal Shelter.

Andrew Foster, the son of Bryan and Lori Foster, plans to attend Husson University to engage in studies to become a physical therapist. He has been a member of the Student Leadership Team at Winthrop since its inception in 2019.

His co-curricular activities include varsity lettering in football, basketball, baseball. He has served as a captain of his three teams his senior year. Foster helps out with the youth teams in Winthrop.

Justin Heath, the son of Amy and Ed Heath, plans to head to North Carolina State University to further his studies in the electrical engineering field. While at Winthrop, he had been a member of the National Honor Society, a participant in the Winthrop High School band and performed in the annual spring Cabaret productions. In his spare time, Heath enjoys working at the PALS Animal Shelter.

Muriel Lattin, the daughter of Harmony Lattin and James Lattin, plans to further her studies in a pre-med track of biology at the University of Southern Maine. Her involvement in school beyond the classroom includes tennis, Nordic skiing, soccer, Student Council, Class Council, chorus, Drama Club, Cabaret, and the Lip-Sync Battle.

Marta Norton, the daughter of Rich and Elena Norton, is valedictorian. She plans to further her education at Maine College of Health Professional, where she is planning on completing a bachelor’s degree in medical imaging.

Her extra-curricular involvement at Winthrop is extensive, as she is president of the National Honor Society, class vice-president, director of WBUS 75, a member of the Student Leadership Team, school band, Chorus, Drama, Prom Committee, Yearbook and Math Team.

Outside of school, Norton is an active member of the Sacred Heart Youth Ministry and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her NHS project was the WHS Rambler Rack, encouraging sustainable fashion. Her academic accolades include a Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, admittance to the National Hispanic Recognition Program, the National and Rural Town Recognition Program, and as a member of the AP Scholars Program.

Madelynne Perkins, the daughter of Jeff and Melissa Perkins, plans to begin her pre-med studies for physical therapy at Husson University. Her school involvement includes National Honor Society, Yearbook Committee, field hockey, basketball and softball. She served as captain of her teams this school year.

Outside of school, Perkins enjoys working with the youth in the community to share her skills with them in field hockey and basketball.

Averie Silva, the daughter of Stephanie and Joe Silva, plans to attend Keene State College in the honors program studying biology. Her school participation includes playing soccer and track and field. Silva is also a member of the Student Council, Drama, band and the National Honor Society.

Caraline Squires Submitted photo

Caraline Squires, the daughter of Jenny and Derek Squires, plans to attend the University of Southern Maine to study elementary education with a minor in political science. As one of the WHS School Committee representatives, she  has shared what has been happening at the school each month as well as sharing the position of the student body on topics having direct impact on the school and students.

Squires’ co-curricular and extra curricular involvement includes class president, Student Council, WBUS, Drama, National Honor Society, tennis and soccer.

Olivia Vance, the daughter of Rocio and Otis Vance, plans to attend the University of Southern Maine to begin her studies in medicine. Her school activities participation includes cross country, tennis, band and Math Team.

Outside of school, Vance is active in her church by planning activities for the younger members of the congregation.
