BATH — This spring and summer, Kennebec Estuary Land Trust plans to offer storybook trails across the region. With the help of volunteers, members have designed storyboards that will serve as temporary exhibits at a number of its preserves.

Nature-themed stories and outdoor activities are available for children 6 and younger. With a chaperoning adult, young children can walk a trail, explore a preserve, or visit the LOCAL Garden while reading a children’s nature book one page at a time, according to a news release from the trust.

People can explore the Green Point Preserve on Birch Point Road in West Bath while reading “Little Sap” by Jan Hughes. This temporary installation will be up from 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21 through 5 p.m. Friday, May 27.

Visitors can view the LOCAL Garden at 61 Lemont St. in south Bath while reading “Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt” by Kate Messner. Children will be able to explore the many types of vegetables, fruits and flowers while reading about what makes gardens grow.

This temporary installation will be up from 10 a.m. Sunday, June 19 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

Families are welcome to use the picnic tables at the garden during their visit. Participants can visit each storybook trail any time of day during their installation, dawn to dusk.

For more information about each event, as well as the storybook trail program as a whole, head to kennebecestuary.org/upcoming-events. Closed-toed shoes that can get wet and muddy are recommended. No registration is required, but pictures of each visit are appreciated and can be sent to info@kennebecestuary.org.
