Debra L. Rollins

AUGUSTA – Longtime Maine resident and animal lover, Debra L. Rollins, 68, passed away at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta on May 12, 2022. She was born in Fort Benning, Ga. on June 27, 1953, and moved to Maine with her parents at an early age. When Deb was very young, her Pepe called her his “Georgia Peach” a nickname which she always lovingly remembered. She had a true zest for life and all living things.

Debra was a graduate of Hall-Dale High School, Hallowell, Class of 1971. She received two Associate of Arts degrees from the University of Maine in Augusta, one in General Sciences in 1973 and one in Criminal Justice in 1975.

For many years, Deb had an eye and passion for photography. She attended the Rockport School of Photography and studied with the late world-renowned photographer Bill Silano.

Her smile was contagious, and her caring ways were noticed by all. She was lovable, caring, well read and possessed a keen sense of humor. In her younger days, she enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Tacoma Lakes boating and waterskiing. She also enjoyed downhill skiing with her family at Saddleback in Rangeley, where her graceful skiing ability was evident to everyone with whom she skied.

As an animal rights activist, she had a passion for grey wolves, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), and loved the beauty of monarch butterflies. Over her lifetime, she rescued four dogs and five cats.

She especially had a strong love for horses and owned two early on. She acquired many blue ribbons at area riding events.

Some of her favorite places over the years included Rangeley, Maine, Yellowstone National Park, attending Maine Pow-Wows, moose watching in Stratton, and sitting by the Kennebec River at Granite City Park in Hallowell which brought her much peace and comfort.

Debby was a longtime member of the Arlington Grange and served as Master for two years.

She was also a member of the Manchester Community Church and loved her church family.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents William and Isabelle Rollins. She is survived by her much-loved sister Dee-Dee Rollins. At the time of her passing, she had two pets, her dog, Abbi, and her cat, Zoe, who she adored. Debra will be greatly missed by all.

Deepest thanks go to Debbie Stowe a treasured longtime friend and confidante who remained with Debby at the time of her death. Deep gratitude is extended to Dr. Gene Cheng and staff. Special heartfelt thanks and appreciation are given to the Willow Run Bed, Biscuit & Bath in Belgrade, Maine.
