Dr. Keith Emery Cook

GORHAM – Dr. Keith Emery Cook, 82, of Gorham died peacefully in the presence of family on May 12, 2022. He was born in 1939 in Waterville to Carleton and Winona (Odlin) Cook of Fairfield.Keith grew up in Fairfield attending Lawrence High School where he played on the football team. He attended the University of Maine completing his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Education degrees. While pursuing education he met Marcia Fuller to whom he was married in Melrose, Mass. on June 15, 1963. Keith and Marcia were married for 54 years until Marcia’s passing in 2018.Keith’s family and career brought them to Lincoln, Manie, Albany, N.Y., and Bangor, Maine, where he taught in public schools and pursued his passion for counseling and mental health. In 1975 the Cook family landed in Waterville which would become home. Dr. Cook opened a private counseling practice in Waterville, which he would maintain until 2018. Keith took a short hiatus from practice to serve as Superintendent of Schools in Howland. Keith loved the outdoors and enjoyed fly-fishing, hiking, camping, and canoeing. He and Marcia loved taking day trips exploring the beauty of Maine, and were particularly fond of the Maine coast. He also enjoyed reading, jazz music, and Maine humor.He is survived by brothers William (Barbara) of Bangor and Jeff (Joanne) of Jefferson; sons Scott (Megan Landry) of Gorham and Michael of Centreville, Va.; grandchildren Sean, Rebecca, Carter and Isabelle; and great-granddaughter Lily. Keith was predeceased by his wife Marcia (Fuller) and daughter Laurie of Columbus.A Celebration of life will be held on June 11, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Waterville on Silver Street.
