Thomas Bateman’s excellent Maine Compass (“Climate agency and urgency – surrender is not an option,” May 15) brought to mind the work being done by the Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL.) Anyone can do their part to mitigate climate change by calling their senators and representatives monthly.

While joining CCL is free and beneficial, one does not need to join to utilize CCL’s website. Those who are members of CCL and those who are not can both take advantage of CCL’s reminders and suggestions for talking to their representatives. Simply go to CCL’s Monthly Calling Campaign (cclcalls.org) and sign up for either email or text message monthly reminders. Then call! The congressional staff are unfailingly polite, and they all appreciate hearing from constituents.

Join the more than 29,000 people who call or email their representatives in Washington every month. It’s one important step to what Thomas Bateman calls “collective agency.” Together, we will solve climate change.
