It’s no question that the overturning of Roe v. Wade is due to the mass media coverage over the topic. Roe v. Wade was decided on Jan. 22, 1973, when the Supreme Court ruled that abortion was protected under the Constitution. By overturning the court’s previous decision, the law would be left up to the states.

One of the hardest puzzle pieces to this is that many individuals follow selective exposure. Rather than look at the opinion as a whole, people read over the news that follow either a left or right extreme viewpoint. We need to publish more information that is more complex. The media published today follows a very basic structure. The sources push their ideals out without any neutral information.

While this is protected under the First Amendment, this has created an incredible political divide in our culture. We need to challenge our state to be leaders of media and gather information rather than follow the information provided by leaders. There is a social pressure that we need to adopt the dominant position. Going against the grain will develop our country and allow for more innovational thinking.
