Gayle Ann Sawyer

AUGUSTA – Gayle Ann Sawyer, 68, passed away May 22, 2022 at her home in Augusta. She was born May 24, 1953, the youngest child of Robert and Gladys (Stewart) Sawyer Sr. Gayle, known to most as “Ann,” grew up in Augusta and was an athlete at Cony High School, where she graduated in the class of 1971. Ann was an excellent student and went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Southern Maine. She had an extensive and successful career; in her younger days, she managed an X-ray technician school in Rhode Island. She also taught and worked at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Prior to her retirement six years ago, Ann worked as a clinical administrator at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care for 17 years.Ann was a Sea Dogs fan and held season tickets with her sister Joan for 20 years in Section 11, Row B, seats 18 and 19 at Hadlock field in Portland. Together, they enjoyed traveling all over New England to cheer on their beloved Sea Dogs. Ann also enjoyed simply spending time at home with her precious cats, Zebulon, Rose Marie, Blackee, Winston and Miss Kitty Carlisle.Ann will be remembered as a generous and loving sister and friend to all those who knew her.She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Robert P. Sawyer Jr., and Frederick “Pete” Sawyer.She is survived by her siblings, Margaret McDonald and her husband Robert, Judith Jenkins, Mary Stevens, and Joan Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews, including beloved nephew Aaron Cake and his wife Dana.A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Manchester, Maine.Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330.
