Author and illustrator Carol-Lynn Rossel, who lives in Winthrop, has published her latest book, “Monhegan Magic.”
Rossel loves to visit Monhegan Island and to take photographs of its places and people. As a younger girl on New York City’s Staten Island, each year Santa left her a doll and a book. One year, he added a camera, film and her grandmother’s painting box. These gifts led to her life’s work. Her monochrome photography has been exhibited internationally. Her lovable teddy bear designs for collectors and companies have charmed children worldwide. Many of her 25 published books feature dolls and teddy bears. Her house is full of toys, many of which she made. Some were models for the characters in this book. She took their portraits, combined them with her photographs of Monhegan Island and used these composites as reference for digitally painted illustrations.
Rossel is learning to play the ukulele and is a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators New England.
