Edward “Ned” R. Goff Jr.

SKOWHEGAN – Edward “Ned” R. Goff Jr., 70, passed away on June 5, 2022, at his camp in Mercer where he was able to spend his last days with his family and friends. Ned was born to Bernadette (Soulnier) and Edward Goff Sr. on April 13, 1952. He was educated at the James Bean Grammar School and graduated from Messalonskee High School in 1971, where he was class president, lettered in three sports, and was captain of the football and baseball teams. After high school, Ned worked in sales at W.S. Pillsbury for eleven years, followed by ten years as a John Deere salesman at METCO in Bangor. On Aug. 29, 1981, Ned married the love of this life, Ann (Bujold). In 1990, they opened Skowhegan Equipment and Tool. The business continues to be run by his family today. Ned was involved in many charitable and civic organizations throughout his life including the Parish Council, Sidney Board of Appeals, Skowhegan Planning Board, Skowhegan Economic Development, Skowhegan youth sports coach and boostermember, as well as being a lifetime member of the Skowhegan Madison Elks where he served on the board of trustees. Ned was a devout Catholic, attending church at St. Theresa’s in Oakland and for the past thirty years at Notre Dame de Lourdes in Skowhegan. Ned’s favorite hobbies included snowmobiling, spending time at camp, playing poker with his friends and spades with his family, wintering in Florida, and watching his grandchildren play sports. One of his greatest pleasures in life was bringing happiness and joy to children at Christmas. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann, his three children, Edward R. Goff IV and his wife Jennifer, Nathan Goff and his wife Jillian Davis, and Danielle Libby and her husband Scott. Ned will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Edward Russell Goff V, Owen, Gabrielle, and Charli Libby, and Wyatt and Emmerson Goff; his siblings Gale Loveitt (Gene), Lendall Goff, Sr. (Wynne), brother-in-law Robert Thorne as well as several nieces and nephews and many lifelong close friends. Ned was predeceased by his parents Bernadette and Edward Goff Sr., his nephew Scott Thorne, and his sister Kathy Thorne.The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the dialysis clinic in Skowhegan for providing over ten years of compassionate and loving care. A mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, June 16, 2022, 10: 30 a.m., at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.Arrangements under the direction and care of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan ME 04976. Ned’s generosity was known throughout the community as was his commitment to the youth sports programs.
