Francis “Scotty” Scott

READFIELD – Francis “Scotty” Scott, 84 of Readfield, passed away June 8, 2022. Born in North Wayne to William J. and Lela (Crafts) Scott, one of nine children. He had a knack of remembering every sibling’s birthday, over the years often calling in the wee hours of the day to be the first to wish them happy birthday. Losing his mother at the age of 14, Scotty and his 8-year-old brother Norman lived alone in North Wayne for two years. He is proud to have graduated from Winthrop High School in the era where it was not uncommon to drop out. Scotty worked for Saunders Manufacturing in Readfield for 54 years, helping grow the company from a handful of employees to at times over 100.

Set up on a blind date, he met and married the love of his life, Virginia “Ginger” Scott in 1957. They remained married until her death in 2020. Together they raised two children and worked hard to achieve their goals, from building their dream home in Kents Hill and a cabin in the northern Maine woods, to adventures in their RV and in their Cessna 170 airplane. They led a life filled with family, friends and travel. Scotty and Ginger traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada. Favorite trips included Glacier National Park in Montana and a six-week adventure to Alaska. The greatest joy in life were grandchildren Jamie and Scotty. They proudly embraced attending their grandchildren’s school and sporting events, plays, concerts and more. They took each grandchild to airplane conventions: Jamie to Colorado and Mesa Verde National Park, and Scotty to Indiana and the Indianapolis Speedway. They joined daughter Marcia and her husband Mike and the kids on camping trips and timeshare vacations in places like Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, the Pocono Mountains, Prince Edward Island, and places closer to home.

Scotty’s interests were many: beekeeping, restoring vintage snowmobiles, ice fishing, weekends at the cabin, hunting with his brothers, an annual father-daughter snowmobile weekend, Bowman Field Fly-ins and so much more. He loved dogs – a German Shepherd Spokes, his Golden Retrievers, Yogi Bear, Silver Bear and Grizzly Bear and finally his beloved Goldendoodle Moxie.

Scotty is survived by daughter, Marcia and her husband Mike, granddaughter Jamie and her husband Andrew along with great-granddaughter Devon, grandson Scotty and his partner Nykia; brother, Norm and sister, Lynda and her husband Tom, sisters-in-law Doris, Carolyn and husband Steve, brothers-in-law Albert and wife Shirley, Fred, and Robert and wife, Kaye.

In addition to his wife and parents, Scotty was predeceased by son, Jeff; brothers Merle and Lawrence, sisters Mona, Glenna, Alice and Muriel.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to:
