The Chaplaincy Institute of Maine ordained 16 new interfaith ministers during a ceremony June 5 in the outdoor chapel at Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center in Saco.
The ordinands committed to interfaith leadership, service, and presence in a hurting world, according to a news release from the institute.
The newly ordained ministers include: Lizzie Grobbel of Northampton, Massachusetts; Kat Black and Chris Vazquez of Truro, Massachusetts; Jane Ducott of Scarborough; Jan King of Portland; Abby Luca of Fryeburg; Annick McIntosh of Lamoine; Rebecca Thyssen of Brunswick; Gabe Burford of Belfast; Hadley, Couraud of Norway; Ari Hilton of Wilton; Autumn Khavari of Bucksport; Val Lovelace of Westport Island; Anne Leslie of Wiscasset; Jill Morgan of Swanzey, New Hmpshire; and Sarah McEvoy of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Interfaith ministers, also referred to as community chaplains, serve people of any and all faiths and spiritual paths, including those who identify as not religious or spiritual. They lead weddings, funerals, and worship services, and offer compassionate presence in institutions, at the bedside of the sick and dying, in the conference room, at the kitchen table and anywhere else a faithful witness can be of use.
