The GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) Skowhegan Woman’s Club met June 8 at the home of a member and via Zoom to hold a business meeting and to install new officers and new board members for the 2022-24 term.

Outgoing Co-Presidents Julie Kosch and Billie Sherman performed the installation ceremony for the following officers: President Bonnie Chamberlain, Vice-President Marjorie Coburn Black, Secretary Sharon Adams and Treasurer Barbara Robbins.

The Board of Directors includes Debra Burnham, Sue Ellen Lexier, Ann Palmer, Vi Fernald, June Nickerson- Hovey and Freda Toneatti.

The GFWC Maine Spring Convention met at The Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport May 5-6. At this state convention, the Skowhegan Woman’s Club earned the following Arts and Culture Awards: annual scrapbook award, second place; Sue Ellen Lexier, one second place and two first place photography awards; and Mary Cayford, first place for a non-fiction writing piece.

Debra Burnham delivered a eulogy, written by June Nickerson-Hovey, to honor longtime member Darla Pickett, who died last December.

The club also announced its annual Skowhegan Woman’s Club Scholarship recipient, Hailey Coutoulakis. This graduating senior of Skowhegan Area High School will major in education at Thomas College in Waterville this fall. Her father, Christopher Coutoulakis, said her goal is to become a teacher for SAD 54.

At 5 p.m. every Sunday in July and August, weather permitting, Skowhegan Woman’s Club members will be selling homemade snacks and drinks under their tent at Concerts in the Park. Coburn Park is located off Water Street in Skowhegan.
