Shirley Ann Bowie Shea

TEMPE, Ariz. – Shirley Ann Bowie Shea, 85, passed away, surrounded by family, on June 3, 2022, following a brief illness. She was born May 18, 1937, in Litchfield, Maine, the daughter of Edward and Alberta Smith. Shirley was a graduate of Gardiner High School. On June 25, 1953, she married Norris “Tuffy” Bowie. Shirley was employed by the State of Maine. Shirley and Tuffy operated a poultry farm for many years in West Gardiner while raising their four children. She enjoyed time with family and friends at their cottage on Cobbossee Lake. After Tuffy’s death, Shirley married James “Jim” Shea on May 14,1988.Shirley loved camping. She was an avid fisher, brook fishing in The Forks, ice fishing on Cobbossee Lake and Webber Pond, and salmon fishing in Alaska. She enjoyed “playing the ponies” at the tracks in Lewiston and the Windsor Fairgrounds. She enjoyed gardening and antiquing, memorably finding a first edition of Robinson Crusoe. She was a wonderful cook. Her yeast rolls were a family favorite and she made dozens of them by request for holiday dinners. Following her retirement, she and her husband Jim enjoyed summers at their home on Webber Pond in Vassalboro, Maine, and traveled to Arizona and Florida in the winter months.Shirley is survived by her daughter Pamela Hayes and husband James of Tempe, Ariz., sons, Darrell Bowie and wife Susan of Litchfield and Norris “Butch” Bowie and wife Victoria of Windsor; grandsons Jason Bowie and wife Betsy of Richmond and Aaron Hayes and wife Nicole of Tempe, Ariz., granddaughters Amber Hayes of Tempe, Ariz., Amanda McDonough and husband John of Lisbon, Jillian Dearborn and partner Dan Lambert of Chelsea, Cassie Boucher and husband Pete of Litchfield, and Jordan Bowie of Chicago; great-grandchildren Jared, Briar, Katie, Kobe, Cole, Jade, Corey, Courtney, Emery, Bryce, Devin, Zoe, Isaiah, Dakota, and Freya; great-great-grandson Cash; and her little dogs, Rascal and Lily.She was predeceased by her parents, first husband Norris “Tuffy” Bowie, daughter Brenda Bowie, and her second husband James “Jim” Shea.A graveside service will be held on Oct. 18, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the Maine Veterans Cemetery located at 163 Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta (Section H) followed by a Celebration of Life at Butch and Vicky’s home in Windsor.
