NORTH ANSON – Frances May Jackson Gould of North Anson peacefully passed away June 17, 2022 at the Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan where she had been a resident for the last three years.

Frances was born August 10, 1925 in New Portland, Maine to Harry and Mildred Atwood Jackson. Frances received her early education in New Portland, graduating from Central High School in 1942. Frances continued her education, majoring in elementary education, at Farmington Normal School, graduating in 1945 from Farmington State Teachers College. She taught school in Embden for two years, “ where she walked, and walked, and walked” to get to work. After she married Dwight Gould she taught at the Mark Emery School for two years. They moved to North Anson and built a home where they lived together until his death in 2003.

Frances was a stay at home mom until her youngest child started school and then she too went back to school, again teaching at the Mark Emery School until 1985 when she retired.

Frances belonged to the North Anson Congregational Church where she was director of the Sunday school, a member of the Women’s Association, and a member and director of the choir. Frances also belonged to Eastern Star, Rebekahs, and the Somerset Retired Teachers Association.

Frances would start her day off with a cup of coffee and the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzle and word jumble. She loved to read, do puzzles, craft and quilt, watch classic game shows, murder mysteries, and her beloved Celtics and Red Sox. One of her biggest loves was music. It was no surprise to walk into the house and find her playing the piano or organ and singing along. She passed this love on to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her numerous students she gave piano lessons to.

Frances’s biggest love was her family. Children, Wayne Gould of North Anson, Glenice (Gould) Williams and Dale of Hampden and Joyce (Gould) Knowles and Kendall of New Portland; granddaughters, Shauna (Williams) Antonelli and Jay, Meghan (Williams) Schall and Bill, Jennifer (Knowles) Philibotte and Jeff, and Melinda (Knowles) Larrabee and Chad; great-grandchildren, Grace and Jason Antonelli, Sophie and Addison Schall, MaKenzie and Kaelyn Philibotte, and Jordan Larrabee. Her great-grandchildren affectionately referred to her as Grammie the Great.

Frances was predeceased by her husband Dwight.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Cedar Ridge Center for their loving care of Frances.

Visitation will be Monday, June 27, at the Congregational Church in North Anson from 11- 12. The funeral service will start at 12, with the committal service following the funeral at the Sunset Cemetery in North Anson.
