Rance A. Pooler

SOLON – Rance A. Pooler, 86, passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2022 surrounded by his family. Rance was born Feb 2, 1936 in Burnham to Charles and Norma Pooler. He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Class of 1956.He started working for the Maine DOT right out if high school. In February 1958, he joined the Army and enjoyed touring most of Europe while stationed in Germany and most of the southeast United States while stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga.He returned to Maine in 1961 after being honorably discharged and returned to work at MDOT until retiring in 1995.He met the love of his life, Eleanor Holbrook, and they married in 1964, raising two children, Janice and Timothy.Rance was a member of many organizations through the years. He became a Mason in 1956. He joined the Grange in 1953, and joined Eastern Star in 1972. He was a 4-H leader for 50+ years, the Solon Fire Dept for 30+ years.He also a member of the Antique Auto Assoc., Solon Snowhawkes, Moose Alley ATV Club, Antique Tractor Club, 4-H Camp Scholarship Board, Former Shriner, Good Sam Kennebec River Rovers, Red Cross Assoc., SAD #74 School Board Member, life time member of Skowhegan State Fair and Farmington Fair, Solon Water District, Solon Historical Society, and an EMT at Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service.Rance loved to travel and see new places. He loved to just get in the car and drive. Eleanor always said “He never goes the same way twice” and “He takes new roads after dark so I can’t see anything”.He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Norma Pooler, his in-laws Irving and Sylvia Holbrook; his son Timothy W. Pooler, and son-in-law John McCormick.He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; daughter, Janice McCormick; grandchildren AJ Giroux and wife Brittany, Jess Giroux, and Timothy L Pooler and wife Ruth; great-grandchildren Alexis, Brady, Isabella, Elle, and Joshua; special family members Nicky Clark, Derek, Hallie, Cooper, and Kaitlin Dellarma; many brothers/sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews; and Beacon Hospice ND especially Tammy Heatley.Services are under the direction off Giberson Funeral Home, Bingham.Visiting hours will be June 24 from 4 to 7 at Giberson Funeral Home 18 River Street Bingham. Graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Solon, ME on June 26 at 1 p.m.. Family and friends will gather at the Solon Masonic Hall after the service.
