AUBURN – Edward “Buzz” W. Knight, Jr., 88, a resident of Monmouth, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022, at Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn.

He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Weymouth, Mass., the son of Edward W. Knight, Sr. and Bessie V. (Reed) Knight. He attended school and graduated from high school in Weymouth, Mass. and received his bachelor’s degree in education from University of Maine Orono. He later continued his education earning his master’s degree in education at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts.

It was in Maine that he met and married his wife of 64 years, Joyce E. Riggs of Monmouth. They were married July 22, 1957. They briefly made their home in Monmouth before moving to Massachusetts.

While in Maine, Edward “Buzz” worked as a teacher and coach for Monmouth Academy. After moving to Massachusetts, he worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal and later as principal at Weymouth North High School. After his retirement they moved back to Maine. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, fishing, spending time with family and socializing with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce E. Knight of Monmouth; two daughters, Karen Cyr and husband Michael of Monmouth and Lynda Russo of Weymouth, Mass., a son, Jeffrey Knight and wife Audrie of Monmouth; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Dallas Knight, and a sister, Priscilla Liset.
