AUGUSTA – Howard “Howie” A. Mason, 80, died Friday, June 24, 2022, at his home following a long illness. He was born in Gardiner on August 3, 1941, a son of the late Harvey C. and Harriet G. (Ketchum) Mason.Mr. Mason attended Gardiner schools and had been employed at Bath Iron Works for many years.He was predeceased by four sisters, Phyllis Nicola, Beulah Williams, Joan Hiltz and Rose Scribner and two brothers, Dwane and Brian Mason.Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Annette M. (Dumont) Mason of Augusta; two sons, Mark A. Mason of South China and Todd J. Mason of West Gardiner, two daughters, Lynne M. Hayes of Winslow and Shannon M. Russell of Whitefield; eight grandchildren, Ashley Jorgensen, Amanda Wing, Sarah Morang, Erik Morang, Abbi Hayes, Molly, Maggie and Emily Russell; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Hudson and Mason; two brothers, Harvey C. Mason, Jr and Gilbert Mason, both of Silver Springs, Fla., three sisters, Doris Jodry of Silver Springs, Fla., Brenda Bonsant of Windsor and Nancy Godbout of Farmingdale; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.A private memorial service will be held at a later date.Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.Condolences, stories and photos may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
