The Marti Stevens Interactive Improvisational Theater has received one of 260 AARP Community Challenge grants for 2022, and one of 11 to Maine organizations. The social justice theater group has been providing performances nation-wide and across Maine for close to 40 years and was chosen from thousands of U.S. community organizations for the AARP grant award, according to a news release from Executive Director Susan J. Parks.
The grant deliverables for MSIIT are gratis performances for organizations, agencies and civic groups in the Central Maine area. The performances will focus on the barriers that people 50-plus years of age encounter as they try to remain in the communities they love and with which they have strong connections. The “life” of the grant is from June 29 through Dec. 31, 2022.
If an organization, agency or civic group is in central Maine and would like to explore the possibility of a free performance from MSIIT, contact Parks at [email protected] or 207-441-4942. More information about MSIIT is available online at martistevens.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
