A South Berwick woman finished third Thursday night after realizing a childhood dream of appearing as a contestant on the hit TV quiz show ‘Jeopardy!’

Heather Brown, a 35-year-old civil servant, trailed throughout the contest and finished third, with Brian Ahern, a user support specialist from Daly City, California, winning the popular game show. Returning champion Yungsheng Wang, a public defender from Los Angeles, finished second.

Brown incorrectly answered the Final Jeopardy! question – “Per Guinness, this character, who debuted in 1887 is the most portrayed literary character in film and television.”

The correct answer was, “Who is Sherlock Holmes?”

Brown wagered and lost all her winnings, $4,800, after incorrectly answering “Who is Scrooge?” Wang also answered incorrectly, “Who is Zorro?” Wang wagered $4,900, which put him behind Ahern, who gave the correct answer. Ahern won $26,800 and returns for Friday’s show, which will be televised on ABC at 7:30 p.m.

Appearing on the game show has been a lifelong dream of Brown’s. Many of her childhood memories center around watching the show with her parents in her home state of New Hampshire.
