John G. Brennan

WINTHROP- John G. Brennan, 59, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was the husband of Tricia L. (Chase) Brennan.

John was born Sept. 30, 1962, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Frank Brennan and Rayma Greene Nason. John was a resident of Winthrop for many years and graduated from Winthrop High School 1982. John began his college education at Northern Maine Technical College and graduated from the University of Maine at Augusta. He was an avid college student with a love for learning.

John was a United States Air Force veteran and proudly served. John was stationed at Luke AFB, Arizona, Rhein-Main AB, Germany, March AFB, California, and Loring AFB, Maine. John held the rank of SSGT and retired as the Air Force Recruiter in Augusta.

John will always be remembered for his outgoing personality. In September, 1993, at the age of 29, John was diagnosed at MMC with Budd-Chiari Syndrome and hepatorenal failure; as a result, John underwent a liver transplant, a kidney transplant, and transplants of major arteries all at Wilford Hall, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, a month after his 30th birthday. John was blessed to have received this beautiful gift from a donor which allowed him to have 29 more years to raise and be with his family. He was a proud Dad and took great pride in his children, their accomplishments and the lives they have built. For John, putting his children through college was a great accomplishment. All three of his children earned their Bachelor’s Degree. John loved his time at Daytona Beach and Greenville, to name a couple. The NASA program, and space in general, were fascinating to John. It was never a surprise when he would pack up the kids and drive to Florida to see a rocket launch! He was a longtime member of the VFW Webber Memorial Post 9526 where he was serving as Quarter Master. John was an active member of the American Legion Post 40 where he was currently serving as Second Vice Commander. John was a member of the Honor Guard, Quarter Master of the Amvets, a member of the Legion Riders and Fraternal Order of Eagles/4330 Aerie, Girl Scouts Troop 141 VFW/American Legion Liaison, Chartered Organization Representative Boy Scout Troop 604. He also enjoyed volunteering for anything and everything, he was an avid gardener, loved an air show with the Blue Angels and B52’s! John was known for tucking one of his loyal dogs into his jacket for a bike ride or for a Rambler football game where he would watch Joey play football with his team.

John is survived by his wife, Tricia; his daughter, Suzanna Brennan of Hallowell, his son, Joseph Brennan of Portland and his stepchildren, Brittany Howe, Dustin Eldridge and Marissa Eldridge; his brothers, Jeff Brennan, Mark Brennan and David Brennan all of Winthrop; his stepbrothers, John “JR” Nason of Winthrop, Mark Ironfield, Chris Ironfield both of Massachusetts, and stepsister, Kim Ironfield of Massachusetts; his grandson Casey Jones; his step-grandchildren Evan Gilks, Trevor Buck, Jace Howe and Noah Howe. He is also survived by his stepfather, Emery Nason of Winthrop, his stepmother, Gail “Stormy” Brennan of Port Orange, FL, as well as, his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Donna Chase of Winthrop; and his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Brennan, Timothy Brennan, Rory Brennan, Jodi Brennan and Nicole Brennan Achey; his step-nephews John and Jake Nason.

John was predeceased by his father, Frank Brennan; mother, Rayma Nason; and stepbrother, Bruce Nason, and his niece, Suzanna G. Brennan.

John’s graveside service with military honors will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday July 12, 2022, from 1-5 p.m., at the Legion, 40 Bowdoin St. Winthrop. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
