A community sound bath in the Camden Amphitheatre. Submitted photo by Camden Public Library

Sound Therapist Jim Doble and didgeridoo musician Forest Weston plans to use a variety of resonant instruments to create soothing waves of sound during two community sound bathings on Sunday, July 17, and Monday, July 25, in the Camden Amphitheatre on Atlantic Avenue.

Sound bathing is a meditative experience in which those in attendance are “bathed” in sound. It is often classified as a wellness practice. Many who have participated in Doble’s sound baths claim that the gongs, chimes, singing bowls, and other instruments provide a musical and relaxing “sonic cleanse,” according to a news release from the Camden Public Library.

Doble has spent 30 years creating musical instruments, specializing in custom, experimental, and one-of-a-kind designs. He has produced several instruments for enjoyment at libraries, schools, parks, and museums. Weston has been playing didgeridoo for 12 years.

Participation in the program is by optional donation, with a portion of the proceeds collected benefiting the library. Doble encourages participants to bring a blanket, yoga mat or chair.

The public is welcome to drop in, but registration is encouraged so that attendees can be notified in case of event cancellation.

To register, or for more information, contact Doble at jim@elementaldesign.me or 207-785-2212.
