I must now break the hiatus I took from “Letters to the editor” and respond to “The Maine Millennial” in her column, “Abortion ruling will change lives for the worse” (June 3). She softens her pro-abortion stance with a lot of “what-ifs”; but there are no “ifs” for the aborted baby. The infant is dead and no amount of rhetoric can alleviate that reality.

Unfortunately she has fallen prey to Planned Parenthood and its pro-abortion advocates. The lies perpetrated by them concerning the beginnings of life — “only a cluster of cells” — was just the opening salvo. Whatever happened to their original mantra pushing for the legalization of abortion — that it should be “safe, legal, and rare.” We can all see where that deceptive slogan got us. Talk about lying!

Because sad to say, at times and in some states, abortion allows babies to be killed at all nine months of pregnancy. And we dare to call ourselves a civilized nation! We have to look no further than the Washington, D.C., Surgi-Clinic, where Dr. Cesare Santangelo performed abortions.

To our eternal shame — “religious zealots” notwithstanding — history will record us as having allowed the killing of babies for 50 prolonged years. May this nation begin to atone.
