Anna Kathrin Ball Turner

MESQUITE, Texas – Anna Kathrin Ball Turner passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at the age of 90. Anna was born on May 2, 1931, in Plano, Texas to John William Ball and Sallie Mabel Sandifer Ball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Carlton Turner; her parents; and her six siblings.

Anna enlisted in the Navy on Sept. 2, 1952. She served for 22 years and retired as a Senior Chief in 1974. Anna met her husband Evan while they were both on active duty. They were married on March 10, 1966. Evan enlisted in the Marine Corps late in World War II and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972.

They retired to Mt. Vernon. There they cared for Lucy (Evan’s mother), restored Evan’s childhood home and enjoyed friends and family. They attended the United Methodist Church in Readfield. They were active in the food bank at the First Baptist Church and the Dr. Shaw Memorial Library in Mt. Vernon. They moved to Texas in 2008 and were members of the First United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Texas.

Anna was known as “Aunt Cappy” by her many nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom she loved. She made friends wherever she lived.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 29, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bean Cemetery near Mt. Vernon.
