WATERVILLE — An Old Navy store is scheduled to open in the JFK Plaza off Kennedy Memorial Drive in early November.

A representative of the company confirmed the opening in an email Thursday evening.

Old Navy is an American clothing and accessories retail company owned by the multinational corporation Gap Inc., and has corporate operations in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, according to the company’s website.

“The fact that Old Navy is expanding into the Waterville market during a time when retail has strong competition from online sales just goes to show the economic vitality of our region is growing,” Kimberly N. Lindlof, president and CEO of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, said Friday. “We are confident that more retail will be forthcoming.”

Old Navy has stores in the Marketplace at Augusta, Bangor and South Portland, as well as an outlet stores in Freeport and Kittery.

Construction has been ongoing in JFK Plaza, in a large, vacant space located next to Tractor Supply that many years ago was used for occasional L.L.Bean warehouse sales.

An Ulta Beauty store also is slated to open in JFK Plaza later this year. Ulta is a chain of beauty stores headquartered in Bolingbrook, Illinois, that carries cosmetics, fragrances, hair nail and bath products, and other goods. Many of the stores include a salon.

While the company offered few details about plans for the business, Crystal Carroll, director of public relations for Ulta, confirmed in April that a store is coming to the plaza.

“We’re actually still in the early phases of planning for this location, so are unable to share specific details,” Carroll said in an email at the time. “The opening is scheduled for later this year, so I can follow up with more information as they become available.”

Founded in 1990, Ulta originally was called Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrances. The nearest Ulta stores to Waterville are in Augusta, Bangor and South Portland.
