Medley A. Murphy

AUGUSTA – Medley A. Murphy, 95, July 14, 2022, at Sandy River Center in Farmington, following a brief illness. He was born in Fort Kent on August 6, 1926, son of the late James W. and Mary Z. (Robichaud) Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Fort Kent High School, class of 1947 and was a US Army veteran, serving with the 102nd Infantry Division, better known as the Ozark Division. Months later, he was transferred to General Eisenhower’s Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany under the United States Forces, European Theatre, better known as USFET, were he served until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He had been employed at E.I. Dupont De Nemours in Delaware for over 34 years. Following his retirement in 1984, he moved back to Maine and worked part-time for Plummer Funeral Home.

Mr. Murphy was a communicant of St. Michael Parish and was active in the St. Michael Parish Men’s Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Germaine (Dubois) Murphy, and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Murphy is survived by three sons, Michael R. Murphy and his wife Sherry of Buford, Ga., Daniel W. Murphy and his wife Linda of Aston, Pa. and John M. Murphy of Mascoutah, Ill., his daughter, Colleen Lewis of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Leo J. Murphy of Augusta, two sisters, Theresa Cyr of Indiana and Natalie McGibbon of Millinocket; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, July 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial with military honors will follow in the old St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winthrop St., Augusta.
