Kingman C. Williams

SALEM, Ore. – Kingman Charles Williams, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away at his home after a brief illness, on June 28, 2022, at 75 years of age, surrounded by family.

A longtime resident of Salem, Ore., he was born in Skowhegan on May 20, 1947. Kingman was a builder by nature and will be remembered as a devoted working family man.

Starting his career building houses, he eventually found his niche in masonry and concrete work. Fifth-wheel in tow and Sandra, his wife, by his side, his work took them to all corners of the country; internationally too. Work sites included beautiful areas: the river banks of Rome, Ga., the islands of Hawaii, Moonshine country of Ohio, and the outback of Australia to name a few. Kingman earned the respect of those he worked and interacted with, his talent will continue to be displayed within the mausoleums he built. Working 25-plus years with Milne construction, his own business ‘Kingman Construction’, and finally for Whitaker Ellis. His work was an extension of himself, gaining satisfaction and a sense of pride. His high expectations as well as his trust in the men and women he worked with earned him high respect.

He was a remarkable husband and father, devoted to creating the best possible home and life for his wife and daughters. He loved gardening and loved to cook, from barbecuing the Thanksgiving turkey to homemade muffins. His welcome, whether a hug or a poke in the ribs, was always warm, and freely given (even to “knuckle-heads”).

He is remembered for his love of his family and friends and his building skills. His ability to find humor in all places and subjects, from breaking down large construction forms, politics, and building barns to coping with skunks on a warm summer night. His sense of humor was dry and often only recognized when he could hold his laughter no longer. Simple tasks and events gave Kingman great pleasure. He enjoyed his early morning drives to construction sites, discussing politics, reading detective novels, and a cup of strong dark roast coffee.

Kingman is survived by his wife, Sandra Steele Williams; his daughters Correna Williams Knepp and Sarah Williams Anunsen; and three grandchildren, Adam Knepp, Emma Knepp, and Mark Anunsen. He is also survived by six siblings, Margret Breeden (Archie), Laura Hauser (Rick), Aaron Williams, John Williams, David Williams (Kath), and Jean Young (Charles).

He was predeceased by his parents Luis and Ernestine (Walker) Williams.

He will be deeply missed.
