AUGUSTA — At least two pedestrians were injured Wednesday night in an automobile crash on Western Avenue, according to police.

The crash, reported at about 6 p.m., involved several vehicles and pedestrians near the Crossings Way area of Western Avenue.

A Toyota SUV driven by Jennifer Kean, 54, of Augusta hit the back of a Honda SUV that had been stopped in traffic while traveling eastbound, according to Deputy Chief Kevin D. Lully of the Augusta Police Department.

The Honda was driven by Aaron Smith, 23, of Clinton. Jeydon Smith, 22, was a passenger in the vehicle.

The Toyota reportedly also struck two pedestrians: Kimberley Curry, 67, of Auburn and Michael-James Preston, 44, of Lewiston.

Police said several people were taken to the hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Kean and both Smiths were treated and released from MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, according to a hospital spokesperson Thursday.

Curry was treated at the Augusta hospital and then transferred elsewhere. The hospital did not have record of Preston being treated there.

Lully said Augusta police were still investigating the crash Thursday, after it was reconstructed by the Maine State Police.

Both eastbound lanes of Western Avenue were closed Wednesday night and detoured around the crash scene.

Officers ask that anyone with information about the crash contact Augusta police at 207-626-2370.
