SKOWHEGAN – Francis A. Lapointe, 90, passed away on July 20, 2022

with his wife of 67 years and his loved ones by his side.

He was born in Skowhegan on May 1, 1932 to Joseph Lapointe and Edna Lanctot Lapointe. He graduated from Skowhegan High School, class of 1950, where he played football. Francis served four years in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Monrovia (APA 31). He graduated from Thomas Business College in 1956. Francis married Shirley Hodgdon on June 18, 1955.

Francis held financial executive positions in paper mills in Augusta and Madison from 1955 to 1980. Francis and Shirley owned their own accounting and income tax business in Madison from 1980 until their retirement in 1996.

Francis enjoyed spending time with his wife on many boating trips on Maine lakes, going for long drives, dining out, and anything chocolate. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his longtime friends Richard and Germaine Goulette and brother Bob and Gerry Lapointe until his late 80s. Francis loved his family and they loved him dearly.

Francis was predeceased by his parents; sister, Rita Lapointe Spencer, brother-in-law Leland Spencer, brother, Robert Lapointe and sisters-in-law Angie, Leona and Ruth Lapointe.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; their three children, Mark Lapointe and wife Dotty of Windsor, Susan Hanson and husband Roger of Winthrop, Kenneth Lapointe and wife Linda of Peoria, Ariz.; grandsons Derek Lapointe, Nathan Lapointe, Joseph Lockett, Jared Hanson; and four great-grandchildren; brothers Paul Lapointe and wife Phyllis, Arthur Lapointe and George Lapointe, sister, Anita Lapointe Lancaster and husband Norman, sister-in-law, Geraldine Lapointe, sister-in-law, Charlene and husband, Bob Hyde; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Date to be determined.
