WASHINGTON — Jennifer Dupree, author of “The Miraculous Flight of Owen Leach,” plans to do a short reading, followed by a workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Gibbs Library, 40 Old Union Road.

Dupree says it will be “a talk about the writing process and how the book came about, some Q and A, and a brief writing prompt based on the passage,” according to a news release from the library.

She may do one favorite prompt she likes to do “about objects that can lead to a discussion on place and character.”

Dupree is a librarian, assistant editor for The Masters Review, and former independent bookstore owner. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program.

Her novel about Owen Leach debuted in April. Her stories and essays have been published or are forthcoming in Be Wilder: A Word Portland Anthology, Solstice, December, The Masters Review, The Lascaux Review, and other places.

She has won a Maine Literary Award for both short non-fiction and short fiction (2022 and 2006) as well as the Writer’s Digest fiction contest (2016).

This event is free. Call the library to sign up at 207-845-2663.
