Maine’s leading environmental advocacy group, the Natural Resources Council of Maine, has announced that four new members have been elected to its 22-member board of directors. The new members bring with them a wide range of experience and perspectives that will be valuable in NRCM’s work protecting Maine’s environment, according to a news release from the Augusta-based group.
Sam Day of Dresden grew up in the Kennebec River Valley. He owns a small construction company that specializes in energy-efficient remodels and new construction. He has a long history of advocating for Maine’s environment with NRCM as well as with Trout Unlimited, Say No to NECEC and others. Prior to joining the NRCM board, Day served on the board of Maine Rivers.
Anthony Eames of South Freeport serves as managing director of Responsible Investment Strategy for Calvert Research and Management, an affiliate of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and is also a director of US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment. A graduate of Wittenberg University, Eames is an accredited investment fiduciary, accredited asset management specialist and global financial steward, and holds FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
Diana McDowell of Lamoine is a full-time artist who has called the Mount Desert Island region home for the past 44 years. She attended local schools and majored in art at the University of Maine. After 20 years, she retired from Friends of Acadia, where she served as director of finance and administration. McDowell is interested in keeping Maine’s air and water clean, and wild lands accessible to the public.
David O. Schylling of Pemaquid Penninsula began his career at Mellon Bank in Philadelphia and returned to New England to partner with his brother to create one of the country’s leading specialty toy brands, Schylling Toys, where he pushed for sustainable production throughout their global supply chain. As an avid environmentalist and early adopter of clean energy, he has had solar panels in operation at his property since 2006.
In addition to the four new board members, a new slate of officers was elected. Edward Simmons of Yarmouth and Rangeley will serve as chair, Maria Gallace of Cape Elizabeth as vice chair, Norton Lamb of New Gloucester as treasurer, and Amy Scott of Greenwood as secretary.
