As of Monday, Aug. 8, the Belfast Co-op at 123 High St. is now known as Belfast Community Co-op. Serving Belfast, Waldo County, and countless summer visitors for more than 45 years, the co-op has decided to update its name to reflect the true nature of this community owned grocery store.

“Our hope is that the update — which simply brings in the word ‘Community’ — helps people understand that everyone is welcome to shop with us. It is our mission and pleasure to bring locally sourced, reasonably priced, organic, and natural products to all. The Belfast Community Co-op is here so that everyone will have reliable, safe access to good local food,” said Jamie Cermak, marketing manager, in a news release from the co-op.

“This update to our name and image signifies our commitment to the future of this community. We are dedicated to the goal of making a thriving local food system and a robust cooperative economic enterprise accessible to everyone that walks through our doors. It’s more than just a name, it’s a promise,” said General Manager Doug Johnson.

“Our updated name and brand reflects our friendly, helpful, and inclusive personality while being a warm and down-to-earth place fostering connection and belonging for the community. We take pride in our history and our roots, while asserting who we are as we continue to grow into the future! Proud to be working with the local design company, Pica. They really helped us bring our new look to life. We’re on the cusp of many big projects and changes, and now’s the time to get going,” continued Johnson.

Located in the heart of downtown, the Belfast Community Co-op is a full service market that has been serving its area since 1976. Everyone is welcome to shop at the co-op: it is its mission and its pleasure to bring locally sourced, reasonably priced, organic, and natural products to all. The co-op is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
