Norman “Red” Rideout

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Norman “Red” Rideout, 93, passed away on August 10, 2022, in Vero Beach, Fla., and was welcomed into heaven by his wife of 65 years, Maxine.

He was born May 25, 1929, in Albion to the late Susie and Vinal Rideout and lived there for most of his life, loving the small-town atmosphere and comradery.

Norman attended Albion schools and graduated from Besse High School in 1947. Norman worked for 42 years at AgriMark (formerly United Farmers) as a field man. He sold insurance with his uncle, Willis Hussey, and served his community as a volunteer fireman for many years. Before he retired, he established Rideout’s Tree Farm, which went on to become a yearly tradition for many families in the area.

He was a 50-year member and past master of Central Lodge #45 in China. He was also a member of the Kora Shrine Temple. His family spent many happy years at their camp on Lovejoy Pond, built by his own hands. He and Maxine enjoyed numerous trips through the years to Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, Branson, Austria, Germany, the Canadian Maritimes, and the Caribbean. They loved camping with the Kennebec River Rovers and made some very special friends in the group. In his eighties, he began following horse pulling competitions and made the circuit through the local county fairs.

He leaves behind his two daughters Sharon (Norman) Nadeau of Barrell Springs, Texas, and Linda (Don) Brouillette of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Maxine, his two sisters, Elaine Haley and Virginia Sylvester; and his grandson, Scott Higgins.

The family would like to thank Bob Sylvester, who visited Norman almost daily to chew the fat and take him to Walmart and out to lunch. Thanks also go to Carroll Quimby who called him every evening while he was living alone to make sure he was okay. Also greatly appreciated is all the staff at Lovejoy Health Center for their care and kindness.
